Sometimes you may need time away from work for personal reasons that are not covered under other leave programs. In these situations, you may request a Personal Leave of Absence.
This page focuses on unpaid personal leave for non-medical reasons. If your leave is related to a medical condition or to care for a family member, visit the appropriate leave page for more information.
In certain circumstances, employees may request unpaid Personal Leave for important personal needs. Personal Leave is discretionary and subject to approval based on business needs.
Eligibility and approval are determined based on your individual situation and business needs at the time of your request.

Your benefits may continue while you are on leave. To maintain coverage, you are responsible for paying your portion of the premiums for any plans you’re enrolled in.
Personal leave is unpaid. You will need to pay your share of benefit premiums directly. You may also choose to cancel coverage during your leave. If payments are not made on time, your coverage may be canceled.
If you return to work, any unpaid premium amounts will be repaid through payroll deductions over time until the balance is fully repaid.
Submitting a request does not guarantee approval. Decisions are based on business needs and your individual circumstances.
Check in with your manager during your leave, especially if your return date changes or you need additional time.
We're looking forward to seeing you back!
If you decide not to return to work during your approved leave, you should notify your manager or HRBP at least two weeks before your scheduled return date. If you do not return or attempt to return to work following the end of your leave, you will be considered to have voluntarily resigned as of your leave end date.

While Personal Leave is unpaid, you may still have access to benefits that can support you during this time:

Some states provide leave benefits you may be eligible to receive. If your leave involves a medical leave or FMLA request, our leave administration partner The Hartford may help identify whether state benefits apply and guide you on next steps.
If eligible, you may need to file a claim directly with your state. Chipotle leave benefits and state benefits may run at the same time and are coordinated so total payments do not exceed 100% of your pre-leave earnings.
