I want to take time away

Funeral Leave

Losing a loved one can be a difficult time. Chipotle provides Funeral Leave to allow employees time to grieve and attend services for an immediate family member.

This page provides an overview of Funeral Leave. Eligibility and duration may vary based on your relationship to the individual and your specific circumstances.

Pay and Benefits During Leave

Funeral Leave is generally paid for eligible employees for up to 3 days when attending the funeral of an immediate family member.

What to Do...

Before Leave

  1. Notify your manager as soon as possible.
  2. Provide details of your leave, including dates and your relationship to the individual.
  3. If requested, submit any required documentation to benefits@chipotle.com.

Notify Your Manager Promptly

Let your manager know as soon as possible so your time away can be supported appropriately.

During Leave

  1. Take the time you need to attend services and manage personal matters.
  2. Stay in contact with your manager if your return date changes or additional time is needed.

Additional Time May Be Available

If you need more time than provided under Funeral Leave, you may be able to use available PTO or request additional unpaid leave with manager approval.

Returning to Work

We're looking forward to seeing you back!

  1. Notify your manager when you are ready to return to work.
  2. Communicate any additional needs or schedule changes, if applicable.

What Happens if I Don’t Return?

If you decide not to return to work during your approved leave, you should notify your manager or HRBP at least two weeks before your scheduled return date. If you do not return or attempt to return to work following the end of your leave, you will be considered to have voluntarily resigned as of your leave end date.

Am I Eligible For Leave Benefits Through My State?

Some states provide leave benefits you may be eligible to receive. If your leave involves a medical leave or FMLA request, our leave administration partner The Hartford may help identify whether state benefits apply and guide you on next steps.

If eligible, you may need to file a claim directly with your state. Chipotle leave benefits and state benefits may run at the same time and are coordinated so total payments do not exceed 100% of your pre-leave earnings.
