Pay and Benefits During Leave

Emergency Leave may be paid or unpaid depending on the situation. If benefits are continued during your leave, you are responsible for paying your portion of any applicable premiums.

If your leave is unpaid, you may need to pay your share of benefit premiums directly. You may also choose to cancel coverage during your leave. If payments are not made on time, your coverage may be canceled.

If you return to work, any unpaid premium amounts will be repaid through payroll deductions over time until the balance is fully repaid.

What to Do...

Before Leave

Emergency Leave is not typically requested in advance. If a qualifying event occurs, Chipotle will communicate next steps and any actions required.

Follow Company Guidance

Emergency Leave is determined based on specific events and business conditions. Be sure to follow all communications and instructions provided by Chipotle to understand your eligibility, pay status, and next steps.

During Leave

  1. Follow any instructions provided by your manager or Chipotle regarding your leave status.
  2. Stay in contact with your manager as needed for updates related to your location or work status

Stay Informed

Conditions may change during an emergency. Be sure to review all communications from Chipotle for updates on your leave status and return-to-work timing.

Returning to Work

We're looking forward to seeing you back!

  1. Follow guidance from your manager or company communications regarding your return to work.
  2. Notify your manager if you have any questions or if your situation changes.

What Happens if I Don’t Return?

If you decide not to return to work during your approved leave, you should notify your manager or HRBP at least two weeks before your scheduled return date. If you do not return or attempt to return to work following the end of your leave, you will be considered to have voluntarily resigned as of your leave end date.

Am I Eligible For Leave Benefits Through My State?

Some states provide leave benefits you may be eligible to receive. If your leave involves a medical leave or FMLA request, our leave administration partner The Hartford may help identify whether state benefits apply and guide you on next steps.

If eligible, you may need to file a claim directly with your state. Chipotle leave benefits and state benefits may run at the same time and are coordinated so total payments do not exceed 100% of your pre-leave earnings.
